Carlos Lopez Charles (he/him)


Carlos is a composer, performer, researcher, and lecturer. His compositions include works for a variety of media -ranging from traditional instruments and ensembles, to mixed/interactive media, electroacoustic, and visual music- that have been performed at different venues and festivals in various countries.

In 2015, he received his PhD from Paris VIII University in France with a grant from FONCA-CONACYT in Mexico, and received the highest mention given by French universities for his thesis on interactive visual music. In 2006, he earned his Master's degree from Paris VIII University and was awarded the Excellence in Art grant from the French Embassy in Mexico. He holds a Bachelor's degree in music composition from the Escuela Superior de Musica in Mexico City, where he studied from 1995 to 2003.

Since 2015, Carlos has been lecturing at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM). In 2017-2018, he undertook the role of Program Leader at the same institution. In 2017, he also became an Associate Artist of the Australian Music Centre. From 2012 to 2015, he was a research fellow in the School of Music at the University of Queensland. From 2007 to 2011, he worked as the Head Producer and Music Technology lecturer at the Mexican Centre for Music and Sonic Arts.
